Charleston’s Newest Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-I
TMI Counseling and Coaching is proud to announce the licensure of Charleston, South Carolina’s first African-American Marriage and Family Therapist-I (LMFT-I) in private practice, Jeannelle Perkins-Muhammad. This designation is significant as LMFT’s are trained specifically for working to help couples revitalize, revamp and repair their commitment as a hallmark for building healthy relationships that promote stable homes and communities.
Ms. Perkins-Muhammad desires to assist the Lowcountry in removing the mental health stigma that persists by providing multi-cultural counseling to all who seek assistance. She believes that mental wellness is vital to ensuring the health of the community overall. She will provide relationship enrichment workshops for couples and singles, parent management and blended family courses, and mental health first aid classes for the community at large.
Ms. Perkins-Muhammad is a graduate of Capella University and completed her tutelage under the supervision of Lt. Commander, Dr. Ann Hummel of U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan. During her internship, she received top honors and accolades for her work with civilians, service members and their families. Ms. Perkins-Muhammad was instrumental in the development of marriage enrichment classes offered monthly, in an effort to thwart family dysfunction during pre-and post-deployments in an overseas environment.
Prior to this licensure designation, Ms. Perkins-Muhammad spent 12 years working with couples and individuals as a Marriage Coach and motivational speaker in spiritual and secular settings. As a LMFT-I in private practice, Ms. Perkins-Muhammad sees clients in Charleston who demonstrate great strength and resiliency by acknowledging their challenges with communication, intimacy, infidelity, parenting, military life, depression, and anxiety in an effort to improve their lives overall.
Ms. Perkins-Muhammad is also a Doctoral student pursing a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. She has been married to Lt. Commander Franklin Muhammad for 18 years and they enjoy two spectacular young adult children, traveling internationally, cooking, and physical fitness endeavors.
